This course teaches the basics of what you need to know to do modern electronics using standard components including:

• A bit of electronics theory: voltage, current, resistance, power.
• How to read a schematic.
• Reading datasheets.
• Semiconductors
• Resistor, capacitors, inductors.
• Transformers
• AC and DC electricity.
• Batteries and Power Supplies.

You will also learn the basics of:

• Prototyping using breadboards: solderless protoboard
• Soldering: basic soldering
• Basic test equipment : Test Equipment and Other Equipment and Tools and Techniques

(Electronics in the Age Of The Arduino has some discussion on what topics should be covered in a basic electronics for hobbyists class, what topics aren't immediately relevant, and how low-cost Arduino and other sub-assemblies have changed how electronics should be taught).
