and make it
XKBLAYOUT="us"
sudo leafpad /etc/default/keyboard may be protected try with sudo no file is empty
wpa_supplicant.conf
# for info
sudo iwlist wlan0 scan
then edit
sudo leafpad /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
