The Colpitts oscillator is an oscillator topology noted for using a capacitive voltage divider.

Choosing frequency

The frequency that the oscillator will run at is given by:

<math>

f_0 = {1 \over 2 \pi \sqrt {L \cdot \left ({ C_1 \cdot C_2 \over C_1 + C_2 }\right ) }} </math>

Reactance sheets are available which provide a chart of inductance and capacitance, and the frequency they will resonate at.
